DOMESDAY BOOK - SUSSEX

Edited from a draft translation prepared by Janet Mothersill, parallel Latin text with English translation (see pictures below), location maps, notes, glossary of technical terms, indexes of places and persons, 224 pp (though the pagination used is that of the Domesday Book itself), red boards in d/w,  very slight spotting to closed edges of pages, otherwise in very good condition, Phillimore (Chichester, Sussex) 1976

20.7 x 14.5 cm, 440g, ISBN 0 85033 145 5

See below the background information from the dustwrapper flap.  The text of Farley’s 1783 printed edition is used, checked against a facsimile of the original.

Phillimore produced a series of these translations, in both hardcover and paperback editions, though all are now out of print.

The entry for my village of Westbourne is shown below.  I am amused to find that in 1086 it was owned by Earl Roger – but alas no relation . . . .
