FLYING COLOURS

Featuring over 1,300 Military Aircraft Markings and Colour Schemes, full-page colour side views of the aircraft (with some top and bottom views, see specimen pictures below) with a few colour and b&w photographs in the introduction, 208 pp, red boards in d/w, a few very slight marks and dents on d/w, otherwise in very good condition, Salamander Military Press 1981

29.9 x 20.7 cm, 1110g, ISBN 0 86101 079 5

The book covers the whole period from the 1916 SPAD to the 1981 Panavia Tornado – see the description below from the dustwrapper flap.  This copy was clearly intended for the US market, as its dustwrapper and case spell ‘colours’ the American way – however, the book inside uses the English spellings throughout . . .

It is a shame that the artists’ names are only mentioned in small type on the verso of the title-page – it must have taken them a great deal of time and effort to produce the 1,300 paintings.

The book was also issued in paperback, but such a large and heavy book, intended as a reference work, should surely only ever be issued in hardback, like our copy.  All editions are now out of print.

The book is heavier than you might expect, as the publisher used heavyweight paper to minimise show-through.  It would therefore cost a good deal to send the book abroad.  If you are outside the U.K. and are thinking about buying it, please email us first on enquiries@monkshillbooks.co.uk and we will quote a price for postage.
