RULES FOR OBSERVANCE BY EMPLOYEES 1933

With Supplements 1 to 11 inclusive, updating the Rules to 1st January 1939, pasted to stubs at rear, diagrams (one folding, see picture below), reproductions of railway forms required, comprehensive index, 203 pp & xxxix pp index & 58 pp supplements, original green cloth with embossed Underground logo on front cover, circular white label on front cover and patch where small square label has been removed (see picture), otherwise in very good condition, 1932-38

16.2 x 10.4 cm, 250g, no ISBN

Issued by the railway companies which later became the London Passenger Transport Board (Railways), which is the body which issued the Supplements.

The Supplements appear to have been printed in a slightly larger size than the Rule Book itself, so the edges of the pages overlap the pages of the bound book and so have become slightly bent and rubbed at the edges.

This copy of the Rule Book is in very good condition considering that almost every Underground employee would have been issued with one, and consequently they would be carried around and used to death.  The clue to this copy’s survival may be the stamp “Development and Research Office” on the front endpaper – a previous 'owner' has tried to obliterate it using Tippex, but it can easily be read from the other side of the page . . .
