THE MAGICIAN OF THE SWATCHWAYS

A Biography of Maurice Griffiths, frontispiece map and numerous illustrations from line drawings and b&w photographs, appendix giving plans of Griffith’s yacht designs, 175 pp, blue boards in d/w, bottom corners very slightly rubbed, spine and rear edges of d/w sunned, small green stain to bottom edge of pp 117-131 (this may be a mark showing the book was remaindered), otherwise in very good condition, Yachting Monthly Magazine 1994

23.3 x 14.9 cm, 520g, ISBN 1 85277 096 1

‘Swatchways’ are passages or channels of water lying between sandbanks, or between a sandbank and the shore.  The word is mainly used in the Thames Estuary and up the east coast – see the map below.

The title of the biography harks back to Griffiths’ best-known book, ‘The Magic of the Swatchways’, written in 1932 and still in print – though, as always these days, only in paperback.

See the description below from the rear of the dustwrapper, and the information about the author from the dustwrapper flaps.

This book was also published in paperback, but all editions are now out of print.
