SWANAGE RAILWAY COMPANY LIMITED

Rules and Regulations for Observance by Staff, with Appendix to Operate from 8 January 2000, unpaginated [but in fact 265 pp, excluding blank pages], in green loose-leaf binder, some pages marked with oily fingerprints, corners of some pages creased, obviously used but in generally good condition, Swanage Railway Company (Swanage, Dorset) 1995

21.1 x 14.8 cm, 680g, no ISBN

The Swanage Railway was a branch line in Dorset, from a junction near Wareham to Swanage via Corfe Castle.  It opened in 1885 and was amalgamated with the London and South Western Railway the following year.  The line was closed to passengers in 1972, but remained open for freight traffic, carrying ball-clay and latterly oil from the nearby Wytch Farm oil-field.

The present company was set up in 1972 and now runs a restored railway service by steam and diesel trains over the six-mile stretch between Norden and Swanage (see picture below).  There are well-advanced plans to restore the link to Wareham to join up with the main line from Weymouth to London.

See below the contents list and list of appendices.

We can only guess at how this book appeared in a charity shop in Emsworth, on the Hampshire-Sussex border . . .
