THE DISCOVERY OF RIVER GAMBRA BY RICHARD JOBSON 1623

B&w illustrations from photographs and line-drawings, location and route maps, footnotes throughout, appendices, extensive bibliography, indexes of persons, places and subjects, xvi & 341 pp, navy blue cloth in d/w, top edge of d/w very slightly creased, very slight spotting to first and last few pages, otherwise in near fine condition (but see note below), Hakluyt Society Series III, Volume 2 1999

24.6 x 17 cm, 990g, ISBN 0 90418 064 6

That is, what we now know as the River Gambia. See the description below from the dustwrapper flap.

There is a very strange binding fault at the rear of the book, in that two of the three blank leaves have been mis-bound at an angle to the rest of the leaves. The unbound book was then guillotined, so there is no sign of the fault from the outside, and the actual printed text in the book is completely unaffected.

Still available from the Society to non-members at a steep £65. Members of the Society receive the volume for the year of their membership, but membership does cost £60 a year. .
