THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF VANISHED SPECIES

Revised edition, very numerous colour illustrations from watercolours (see specimen below) and b&w illustrations from line-drawings, double-page atlas of extinct species, appendix classifying extinct and endangered species, bibliography and index, 288 pp, green boards in d/w, edges of d/w a little creased and with a small tear to rear neatly repaired, top edges of pages a trifle crinkled (as if affected by damp at some time in the past, though there are no actual damp-stains), otherwise in very good condition, Universal Books 1989

30.4 x 22.2 cm, 1730g, ISBN 0 94788 930 2

See the description (below) from the dustwrapper flap.   It is still a shock to learn that species are still dying out in supposedly civilised countries – the Texas red wolf (see picture below) became extinct as recently as 1970.

The original edition was published in 1980, but even this 1989 edition is long out of print.  The only other equivalent book I can trace, Ross Piper’s ‘Extinct Animals’, is in print at an eye-watering £54.00.

Beware – this is a very large and heavy book and would cost a fortune to send abroad.  If you are outside the U.K. and are thinking about buying it, please email me first on enquiries@monkshillbooks.co.uk and I will quote a price for postage.
