THE MYSTERY OF THE BAYEUX TAPESTRY

Very numerous illustrations in colour and b&w from the tapestry, illuminated manuscripts, old engravings and modern photographs, appendix giving b&w photo reproductions of the entire tapestry, bibliographical notes and index, 272 pp, dark green boards in d/w, spotting to reverse of d/w (see picture and note below) and very slight spotting to closed top edge of pages, otherwise in very good condition, Weidenfeld and Nicolson 1986

26.2 x 18.3 cm, 1100g, ISBN 0 29778 928 7

See the description (below) from the dustwrapper flap.

Never mind the mystery of the tapestry – I would like to know how a dustwrapper can show signs of damp (see picture) without any corresponding signs on the book’s covers underneath (see picture), and no signs of damp to the book itself.  Did a pile of dustwrappers get damp, and then dry out,  before they were folded round the finished books?

Now out of print, and in view of the book’s size and weight, and the quality of paper used for the excellent illustrations, it is very unlikely it would be reprinted in these austere times.
